The NEW Neil Deal of the Month

My Favorite Book About Music, Ever: This Wheel's on Fire, Levon Helm's account of the history of The Band.

Not really a definitive work. It can't be, because it's from his perspective, which is very, very different from, say, Robbie Robertson's perspective. If you want a definitive history, read Across the Great Divide: The Band and America, by Barney Hoskyns, a well-respected British music journalist. Anyway, Levon's book lopes along just like his playing and singing, at times hysterically funny, at times pure Arkansas attitude, but always to the point and always entertaining. Even if you're not a fan of The Band (and how can you not be?), you'll enjoy it. Let's hope they make a movie about it,, with Billy Bob Thornton as Levon. But this is starting to read like one of those useless Amazon DIY reviews, so, moving right along.....

My Current Addiction: Clif Bars.

They can't be healthy, not if they taste this cool, and they really don't claim to be, anyway. They have flavors like "almond fudge", fer chrissakes. They are energy bars, whatever that means, but I love them. They're like guilt-free Snickers bars. They took over for my other recent addiction: those Starbuck's Mocha Frappucinos. Not the $7.00 ones from the omnipresent Starbuck retailers, the $2.00 ones at your local deli. But, really, I can quit anytime.......

Need a Drink? Of course you do, and now more than ever.

Head to Lolita Bar, 266 Broome St, corner of Allen St. Great low-key place, very friendly people. Say hello to Katie, Leah and Clyde for me. They'll be behind the bar, but be extra-nice to them, because they own the joint.

And Do Yourself a Favor: I'm admittedly three to six months behind on movies, but go rent Memento.

One of the best movies I've seen in years. Remember, you can only watch so much CNN.
