This summer and fall, Dr. Jake McCann, PhD Presents Eric Diedrichs and Django Haskins. These two young songwriters both lead their own bands and maintain busy performing and recording schedules, but this unique solo acoustic setting allows them to explore both the further reaches of their enviably deep songbooks as well as performing old favorites from their albums. And stripped of other accompaniment, the age-old art of melody and lyric shines through like a beacon from another age of songcraft.
Eric Diedrichs and his band, the Simpletons, have been hailed as the "kings of Cincinnati pop" and enjoy both critical acclaim and sustained radio airplay throughout the midwest. As Matt Sledge of WOXY 97.7 FM raves, "if you're big on having the Kinks and the Beatles all rolled up into one awesome package, then they are it."
Django Haskins (of Django & the Regulars) is based in NYC and Chapel Hill, NC. Sources as notable as Billboard Magazine name him as an artist to watch, saying "[Django's latest album, Laying Low and Inbetween is] recommended to anyone who wonders why rock music is so darn tedious these days...Haskins is a singer/tunesmith whose affinity for the classic recordings of Elvis Costello and Tom Petty is undeniable. However, there's nothing derivative on this set. Rather, Haskins uses his influences as inspiration for songs that are as fresh and infectious as they are comfortably familiar...If you want to hear a great band making even better music, hunt this one down."
